PENSION CONVENTION BY DOEMSTIC WORKERS;
The Maharashtra Domestic Workers Welfare Board
constituted by Maharashtra Government
under Maharashtra Domestic Workers
Welfare Board ACT-2008 has initiated the process of registering the domestic
workers of age group from 18-59 in order to provide social security benefits
such as RSBY, maternity benefit, funeral expense to domestic workers and
educational assistance to their children. However the government has not taken
any move to protect the welfare of the domestic workers above the age group 59.
The Government also has not taken any efforts to include the domestic workers
under minimum wage Schedule.
To convey these demands to the government, we
organised a Convention in Azad Maidan, Mumbai on 10th April at 2.30 PM. More than 2000 domestic workers from all
over Mumbai and Thane districts participated in the event. Eminent
personalities Bhai Jagthap (MLA and Member of Minimum Wage Committee),
Ms.Pratima Jhoshi (Senior Reporter, Maharastra Times), Neela thai lemaye ( Navi
Mumbai Congress President-Women Wing) and Mr.Udhaya Bhatt addressed the participants and assured their support

The 3rd State Level Leaders Meet at Trivandrum, Kerala
The third meeting of the State Level Leaders was held at AICUF Center, Trivandrun, Kerala, on 22nd and 23rd Spetember 2007. The Meet brought together leaders of Domestic Workers in a forum to motivate and strengthen their groups and to work for their rights and justice. The programme also addressed the provision of social security schemes for Domestic Workers who are members of the Kerala Artisan and Skilled Workers Welfare Fund. Mrs. Rohini Kumari, District Executive Officer of the Kerala Artisan and Skilled Workers’ Welfare Fund was the chief guest for the programme. Mrs. Kumari explained the requirements, benefits of the Welfare Fund and encouraged domestic workers leaders and their groups to become members. Domestic Workers leaders were trained on how to approach and put forward their issues and demands to government authorities. At the convention, domestic workers resolved to increase the strength of the Movement and stand together in solidarity and especially fight against trafficking and provide for safe migration.
